In a slump? Try these strategies to get up and get things done!
Hold Yourself Accountable.
Do a task with a friend or family member or tell them that you are going to do it. For example, if you need to buckle down to do work in front of your computer, make a work date with a friend at the coffee shop.
Assign deadlines for yourself. Prioritize your tasks. Mark your task completion times on a calendar.
Make it Fun!
Find ways to make school and work tasks fun. Here is an example. If I have a lot of small (15-minute tasks and chores), I write them down on pieces of paper, fold them up, and then pick the at random. It feels like a game to see what I will get next. You can also throw in a break, such as “have a cup of tea.”
Change your setting. If you usually work at your desk, try working somewhere else, like the library, or a café. Sometimes getting out of your space can refresh your mind.
Try Positive Self-Talk
Encourage yourself! Cheer yourself on, and give yourself a pat on the back when you complete a task. Here are some example phrases you can use.
- “I am productive and consistent with my work efforts.”
- “I will achieve all that I need to.”
- “I am capable of focus.”
- “I am constantly working to become my best self.”
